With attendance numbers over 250, the Ottawa Marine Technical Symposium in Ottawa this February 2013 was a huge success. In addition to over 18 sessions, including keynote speeches, armchair discussions and technical presentations, attendees were able to visit key sponsors.
Co-hosts Gerry Lanigan, representing the Canadian Institute of Marine Engineering (CIMarE) Ottawa Branch, and Glenn Walters, representing the Eastern Canadian Section, Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers (SNAME), welcomed industry representatives from all across Canada, the USA and all sectors of the maritime community.
In keeping with the theme "Building a Stronger Foundation of the Marine Technical Community", Symposium speakers presented and discussed topics that ranged from marine safety; engineering; naval and coast guard fleet renewal and maintenance; shipyard productivity and innovation; plus much more.
Technical presentations provided the latest information on technology and best practices from companies such as Fleetway, DRDC, Memorial University of Newfoundland, General Dynamics Energy, GasTOPS, Dominis Engineering Ltd. as well Genoa Design International, Ltd., Babcock Canada and the Royal Canadian Navy.
The inaugural event was a sure success. Stay tuned for future CIMarE and SNAME events.
